SBS – Sick Building Syndrome

\nDo you have new carpets and furniture in your office, electronics with plastic covers, or perhaps fire doors? And on top of that, is everything cleaned with various chemicals? Be careful to see if you are also experiencing sick building syndrome.
\n
\nThe abbreviation SBS = (from English) Sick Building Syndrome is used worldwide. It is a collective term mainly for workplaces and also for buildings where people observe various health issues, and the symptoms disappear as soon as they leave the building.

How does SBS manifest?

\nLong-term stay in an environment where there is a high concentration of harmful chemicals and various vapors can cause various health complications. The most common symptoms are headaches, fatigue, irritation and burning of the eyes, nausea, or even coughing.
\n
\nSick building syndrome is most commonly observed in people in the workplace, reducing their comfort and thus also decreasing work efficiency.

A matter of recent years

\nWhile in the last century the syndrome was attributed only to working in high-rise buildings, today we see it practically everywhere. In recent years, as most buildings have begun to be insulated and sealed with new windows, and new houses are being reconstructed or built, SBS has started to appear more frequently among people.
\n
\nMany people (including children) have various allergies, asthma, frequent eye irritation, and headaches. Contributing to all of this are so-called volatile organic compounds, or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). These include vapors from carpets, paints, perfumes, cleaning agents, frying, cooking, vapors in toilets and changing rooms, from plastics, and especially from people themselves.

With air quality sensors to a clean indoor environment

\nHelping you achieve a clean and especially healthy indoor environment is our specialization. In our offer, you will find sensors for measuring the concentration of volatile organic compounds – the cause of SBS symptoms. The sensors control the air conditioning unit based on the measured VOC concentration, thus helping to purify the indoor environment from harmful substances.
\n
\nAs you can read in the article, CO2 is not the main air pollutant, there are around 10,000 types of volatile organic compounds according to recent measurements. Our VOC sensor specializes in those most commonly found in indoor environments – vapors from the metabolic activity of the human body and other substances such as formaldehyde, kitchen vapors, vapors from cleaning agents, carpets, varnishes, etc. Basically everything that the CO2 sensor cannot detect.

Intelligent VOC sensor

\nThe NL-ECO-TVOC VOC sensor controls the air conditioning based on the measured VOC levels in the indoor air, thus providing people inside with a higher quality environment for both work and any stay, while also ensuring energy savings, because thanks to the sensor, the air conditioning unit will ventilate as needed.
